Day 22 - San Martin del Camino - Astorga

Another uneventful day, things seem to have settled down a bit and we are taking most days pretty easy now…
As we left the particularly grim Albergue (no heating, coin operated stove top & no electric light down our end of the room).  Actually that's an important tip, look up when you enter a room - is there a bulb in the socket?  Also go straight into the funny, is there toilet paper there?

I've forgotten the name of the village but I liked this church and so did the birds!

Andrew says this best:
Here is one of the most important substations in the Castilla y León region of Spain. Dad reckons power stations are a reminder of man's ability to generate electricity. He's always saying great stuff like that, that's why I love him. —  Moratinos, Spain.

A cross looking down on Astorga:

This is the Astorga cathedral from a distance, I always like to see these as normally our bed for the night is quite close by.  So you have a rough idea how far you have still to walk.

A super safe way of crossing over rail line.  After staggering up & then back down we discovered if we had squeezed pas some bushes and walked 5 metres to the right of the path we could have just walked straight over the tracks!

You may not be able to see my expression but I'm wondering why did we have to that?

So did you cross over that stupid pedestrian rail bridge too?  That's our Albergue in the background.

Church near albergue & some rather grand looking government building:

This is the bishop's house.  I don't think I would want to be celibate to get there but having said that, nice house!

And the cathedral next door (closed as usual):

These last two were taken with Andrew's new vertical panorama technique.

Finally, just some Aussie fun with an inappropriate name.

Customer: I'd like to buy a bizarre oriental dong?
Shopkeeper: You've come to the right place, we have all kinds in stock!
