Day 08 - Viana - Navaratte

What we thought was going to be a fairly short day was longer and harder than expected.  Andrew was suffering in particular from pain in his left Achille's tendon.
Early morning stroll.  Every morning we try to leave pre-dawn, every morning we leave at 8:10 or bit later!

Two very tall pilgrims and a thumb over the camera lens.

Andrew powering on ahead of me.  If you look over his right shoulder you can see snow capped mountains.  The seem to be getting closer all the time.  I hope we are going to miss them!

Entering Logroño, a fuente for pilgrims (and close up).

This is the cathedral of Santa Maria

A little bit more ornate than the average reformed church!  Really warm though, they must have had massive heaters under the floor!

I'm guessing this must be the lady herself.  If I assume she is supposed to be Mary, the mother of Jesus, she must have really stood out in 1st century Palestine!  Either that or they've go the costume wrong!

Pilgrim statues?  How do they fit every thing in their backpacks?

Rockhampton has a competitor!  That's a lot of bull, (Navarette).

Saw an amazing sight today — a shepherd leading a mob of sheep down the road and then over an overpass across the highway!! Not a kelpie in sight!

It's like Jesus' parable in real life!

John 10:3-5 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

Ruins of ancient pilgrim hospital:

Crescent moon over church in Navarette.

15€ each seemed a bit steep for pilgrim dinner so we ate in.  Microwaved a pizza (not very successful) and a pasta dish - better but not remarkable!
