One thing that was stressed in a lot of the articles is break your boots in prior to leaving!
I must have done a good job because they are broken.
The previous pair are really good but there is a design fault in them. There is a hard ridge of plastic that the laces attach to that extends down both sides of the boot.
When I bend my feet (at the toes) while walking, the ridge digs in and cut into the top of my toes, this then got infected :( This has stopped my walking for the last week. Still, better I discover now than on the Camino.

Weight
I expect to lose some weight on this walk but I need to lose some before I leave! The other day I loaded the backpack and it weight 12 kg. Hopefully I can get it closer to 10 kg when I leave. This weight included 2 litres of water so I haven't forgotten that!
